Are all refurbished Apple devices the same?

The short answer is: no. It’s quite common to confuse refurbished with second-hand.

While every refurbished MacBook, iPhone or iPad is by its very nature second-hand, not every second-hand device is necessarily refurbished. Refurbished means different things to different suppliers. Some retailers of refurbished Apple devices restore the software and that’s it. No internal checks, nothing. It’s pointless them selling these as they’ll have a seriously limited lifespan and could (and probably will) fail during or shortly after any warranty expires.
