How to Check if Your iPad is Network Locked
If you're buying a second-hand iPad or switching mobile carriers, knowing whether your iPad is network locked is an important first step. A locked iPad is tied to a specific carrier and won't work with other SIM cards until it's officially unlocked.
Here's how to check.
Method 1: Check via iPad Settings
This is the quickest method if you have access to the device.
If it reads No SIM restrictions, your iPad is unlocked. If it shows a specific carrier name, the device is locked to that network.
Note: This option only appears on cellular iPad models. Wi-Fi only iPads do not support SIM cards and are not network locked.
Method 2: Check via Apple's Coverage Checker
You can verify lock status using your iPad's serial number without needing a SIM card.
Method 3: Test with a Different SIM
The most definitive method is inserting a SIM card from a different carrier.
What to Do if Your iPad is Locked
Contact the original carrier directly to request an unlock. Most carriers will unlock a device provided it is fully paid off and not reported lost or stolen. Unlocking is typically free and processed within a few business days.
