How to force restart iPhone?

2026-07-28

If your iPhone has frozen, become unresponsive, or is stuck on the Apple logo, don't panic! In many cases, you can fix the issue with a simple hard reset, also known as a force restart.

It does not erase any of your data like photos or apps. It only forces the iPhone to restart when the device stops working entirely.

The method to do this is:

  1. Press and release the volume UP button
  2. Press and release the volume DOWN button
  3. Press and HOLD the side power button

Do not let go if the device shows 'Slide to power off' screen.

Keep holding the button for around 10-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

Once you see the Apple logo, release the side button to allow the device to reboot.

If it doesn't work, it might be an indication that there is a more serious issue with the device and we encourage you to bring it to our store in Tollcross at 14 Home Street, Edinburgh.
