How to restart your MacBook?

2026-07-29

Is your MacBook entirely frozen and unresponsive?

Don't worry, this happens sometimes and it may just need a forced reset. This procedure is simple and it will NOT erase any data from your device.

Follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the power button (Touch ID button) and keep holding it for 10-15 seconds.
  2. Once the screen goes black, release the button and wait a few seconds.
  3. Press the power button again to turn the MacBook on.

This procedure is completely different to factory reset which would erase your data. This procedure is only if your device is frozen and not responding.

If your MacBook does not show any signs of life after this procedure or it keeps freezing, we would encourage you to bring it to us for a diagnostic so that we can figure out what's going on with it.

Bring it to our store in Tollcross at 14 Home Street, Edinburgh.

You can also call us on 01312211117.
