Taking a screenshot on your iPhone is one of those simple tricks that makes life easier, whether you’re saving a funny text, keeping a receipt, or capturing something important from a website. The good news? It’s incredibly easy once you know how.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through exactly how to screenshot on iPhone, no matter which model you have. I’ll also cover editing, full-page screenshots, and a few handy tips most people don’t know about.
If you’re using a newer iPhone like the iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13, or iPhone 12, here’s what to do:
Press the Side button (right side of the phone).
At the same time, press the Volume Up button (left side).
Quickly release both buttons.
You’ll see a quick flash on the screen, and a thumbnail preview will appear in the bottom-left corner.
Tap the preview if you want to edit or share it right away. If you ignore it, the screenshot will automatically save to your Photos app.
If you’re using an older model like the iPhone SE, iPhone 8, or earlier:
Press the Side button (or Top button on older models).
Press the Home button at the same time.
Quickly release both buttons.
Again, you’ll see a preview pop up in the corner.
All screenshots are automatically saved in the Photos app.
To find them:
Open Photos
Tap Albums
Scroll down to Screenshots
They’re also saved in your main photo library.
After taking a screenshot:
Tap the thumbnail preview in the corner.
Use the built-in editing tools to:
Crop the image
Highlight text
Draw or annotate
Add text or signatures
Tap Done when finished.
You can save it to Photos or delete it if you don’t need it.
This is perfect for marking up documents, circling important info, or hiding personal details before sharing.
Need to capture an entire webpage or long document? iPhone lets you do that too.
Take a normal screenshot.
Tap the preview thumbnail.
At the top, select Full Page (if available).
Save it as a PDF.
This works best in Safari and certain apps. It’s incredibly useful for saving online receipts, articles, or forms.
If your buttons aren’t working, you can use AssistiveTouch.
Go to Settings
Tap Accessibility
Select Touch
Tap AssistiveTouch and turn it on
You’ll see a floating on-screen button. You can customise it to take screenshots with just a tap.
Here are a few bonus tips most users don’t know:
Quick Share: Hold the thumbnail preview to instantly share.
Copy & Delete: In the preview screen, you can copy the screenshot and delete the original.
Back Tap Feature: You can set up Back Tap to take a screenshot by double or triple tapping the back of your iPhone (under Accessibility settings).
Apple Pencil Users: On compatible iPads, swipe from the corner with Apple Pencil to capture the screen.
Learning how to screenshot on iPhone is simple, but knowing the extra tricks can save you time and frustration.
Whether you’re using the latest iPhone 15 Pro or an older model, the process only takes a second and once you’ve done it a few times, it becomes second nature.
If you run a tech blog, manage social media, shop online, or just love sharing memes, screenshots are a must-know feature.
Now you’re fully equipped. Go ahead, try it out.
