OLED Vs LCD iPhone displays – What is the deal?

When you're deciding between an LCD iPhone Screen and OLED iPhone screen, know that there are pros and cons for both types. For example: Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) technology provides a great balance of image quality with cost; while Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) displays tend to be more expensive but offer better colour reproduction and better battery life.

What Is LCD or OLED ?

LCD screens have been around for much longer than OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screens, and as a result, they're generally cheaper to produce and replace. LCD screens are also known for their high level of brightness, making them easier to see in direct sunlight. However, LCD screens tend to suffer from less superior image quality, as they're not able to display as many colours as OLED screens. In addition, LCD screen often have a longer lifespan than OLED screens.
OLED (organic light emitting diode)
OLED displays, on the other hand, are able to provide a much higher level of image quality thanks to their ability to display a wider range of colours. OLED technology is also more power-efficient than LCD screens as all OLED pixels emit their own light, meaning that they can help extend the battery life of your device. However, OLED screens are typically more expensive to produce, and they can suffer from screen burn over time (similar to Plasma TV screens).

So, which is better?

Hex always recommends like for like replacement. If your iPhone came originally with an OLED display we would recommend to fit an OLED display, especially if you prioritize image quality and battery life over cost. But if you're looking for a cheaper screen option with good brightness levels, and you don’t mind a shorter battery life then an LCD screen might a good alternative.

Does using an LCD on the iPhone originally equipped with an OLED display has any drawbacks?

Yes , LCD has worse colour saturation and considerably bigger battery drain.

Can I upgrade to an OLED screen if my iPhone came originally with an LCD display?

Unfortunately there is no option to include an OLED screen for iPhones that came with the LCD natively.

Will every iPhone repair shop give me an option to choose?

Quite often repair shops will give you just the cheapest option ( LCD ) to be more cheaper than other reputable repair centres without telling you they will be cutting corners.
